Legos + Daddy

Zoey hit a very important milestone this weekend!  On Saturday Daddy helped her build her first Lego set.  Shawn and Zoey picked out this small set from Target for ~$10.  She had originally picked out a bigger set, but we put it back and told her perhaps for her birthday.  This smaller set was a nice test drive to see if she even liked Legos.  She did!  Thoroughly.  Zoey and Daddy followed the directions together; she put many pieces on herself.

Candy

Yesterday Zoey was being particularly ... difficult.  We had promised her a piece of candy if she was good and cleaned up all her mess without fussing, but fussing ensued.

Shawn: NO candy, Zoey!  End of story.
Zoey: But I WANT stories with candy!!!

Monkeys Don't Drive

The whole family was in the car stopped at a traffic light on our way to daycare.  From the backseat, we suddenly hear Zoey say emphatically, "Monkeys don't drive!"  Shawn and I look at each other, confused.  We look to the van stopped next to us and realize the man driving have a particularly hairy arm ...

Nightmare

We woke up this morning to hear Zoey crying in her room.  When I went to see her, she said, "Boys were throwing glass at the playground!"  This was the first time that Zoey has ever talked about a dream to us.  Unfortunately it was pretty upsetting to her :(  No worries, nothing a bowl of Lucky Charms can't fix.

Supergirl

Supergirl
Halloween 2011

(old post that never got published)

Last month I noticed Zoey "flying" around the living room, claiming she was Spiderman.  I asked if she meant "Superman", and she agreed.  Earlier that week her daily report from daycare said that she enjoyed playing super heroes, so I can only assume that's where she learned about these fictional characters.  Had she learned from her parents, she would be pretending to be Spawn or Wolverine.

Unlike every year prior, I've been very "meh" about this year's Halloween.  I've repeatedly shown Zoey Tinkerbell costume dresses at the store but she never showed interest.  It wasn't until the week before Halloween did I decide on her costume.  It was between Supergirl and Alice in Wonderland.  I was leaning towards Alice because it was a simple enough dress that I would retrofit several available sewing patterns to accommodate.  Apparently there are zero sewing patterns for super heroes.  I imagine that DC and Marvel are very protective of their trademarks.  Shawn still liked the idea of Supergirl, so I did more research.  Be forewarned that Googling for "Supergirl" can come up with some very inappropriate photos!  Hopefully Zoey will lose interest when she's older ... I found Simplicity's cheerleader costume pattern in a size 2.  My notebook at work has several sketches for how I would make it work for us.  Acquiring the materials and making it was unexpectedly long process ... how could a 2 year-old's outfit be that intensive???  After 12+ hours of sewing and many miles on the car, the costume turned out great!

Friday was her daycare's Halloween party ... which I didn't find out until the Wednesday before.  I didn't have time to make a cape, just the shirt and skirt.  When I showed her the costume on Friday morning, her whole face lit up and she screamed, "That's MINE?!?"  Once she got it on, she insisted on running around the living room.

That weekend we visited the Texas Memorial Museum to see their Halloween exhibits.  Zoey got to see all kinds of creepy bugs and silly spooky decorations!

Halloween night was a great success!  Zoey, Mommy, and Daddy had a great time.  She walked and trick-or-treated herself for several blocks before her pumpkin was too heavy with candy for her to carry, so we called it quits.

Happy Halloween!

Zoey's 1st Bike Ride

We bought the "Tyke Toter" back on Shawn's birthday, but it wasn't until yesterday that Zoey became interested in bikes.  She saw cousins Malaya and Gabriel take turns on a little bike, but she didn't quite get the hang of it when it was her turn.  Today she tried out her own tricycles and still couldn't really pedal herself.  We offered her a ride on Daddy's bike and she agreed.  She loved it!  Every time Shawn pulled up on the driveway to stop, she insisted on going again.  Glad we're finally getting some use out of this!
